I love history and the story behind this candle holder! According to folklore, the "Courting Candle" was used around the turn of the century when courting was still fashionable. When the suitor would come courting, Dad would light the candle. When the candle burned down to the metal holder, courting time was over. If the young man was rich and showed some promise, Dad would raise the candle to give him more time. If he was a shady looking character, Dad would lower the candle and cut his time in half. 7" H x 4" D (candle not included - see grungy candle section - the grungy tapers fit very nicely in this holder). (The Flicker Battery Candlesticks look awesome in this holder, too). (See "Flicker Battery Cupboard Candles & Candlesticks" Section).
Our flicker candlesticks look awesome in our Colonial Iron Double Taper Candle Holder (shown in photo)! I love the look of this primitive candle holder! (Candles - not included). Measurements is 10 1/2" H, and the candle portion section is 7" W. The base is 4 1/2" W, and 1 7/8" D.These candle holders are also nice to show a smaller candle to create the look of a "nubbie/stub" look that had been used to dimly light an age old tavern without the worries of an open flame! (It creates a totally different look!) Just LOVE the prim look! You will LOVE these early looking flicker candles!
I just love the look of this primitive Iron Candle Sconce!! This is great for any Colonial, Country and Primitive Decor. This is just like the large one that I carry, but it is smaller. This is a great size to hang over our shelves, and cupboards where you need a smaller sconce. It looks AWESOME displayed on our Plantation Cupboard, and hung from our Primitive Bowl Shelf with our *Colonial Olde Kitchen Spice* Flicker Candle with attached prairie cloth & Sweet Annie (as shown in photos). (Candle can be purchased separately). (See "Flicker Battery Candles" section). It also looks great hung over shutters, an old cupboard, or you can display it hung
over a curtain rod!! Sconce is 12" L, and 1 3/4" Deep on the bottom portion of the candle holder.
There are only 2 Small Colonial Sconces left, and I'm not sure when I will be able to get these from my supplier.
These candles are so UNIQUE, and olde
looking! Each candle is rolled in a special spice blend to give it a really Early
Settlers' look! They look like they were crudely made in the Early
Settler's Days! Approx. 6 1/2" H, including
